Hay fever warning as pollen level surge expected this summer

Professor Roy Kennedy, one of Britain’s leading hay fever experts, said levels would soar in what could be the most sudden pollen surge since 1962.

The basics

Hay fever is an allergic reaction to pollen; the fine powder released by plants as part of their reproductive cycle.

Pollen contains proteins which can cause the nose, eyes, throat and sinuses to become swollen, irritated and inflamed.
